A Blossom Fell is a 1955 pop ballad about betrayal and the end of a dream of love, told through the image of a blossom falling on lips that lie. The original version was recorded by Dickie Valentine with Johnny Douglas and His Orchestra in 1955 as a single, with the B-side Alone Too Long. A popular English-language cover followed the same year by Nat King Cole for Capitol Records, which helped bring the song to international audiences. The writers are Howard Barnes, Harold Cornelius and Dominic John Roncoroni, and the tune won the 1956 Ivor Novello Award for The Year’s Most Popular Song. It remains a 1950s pop-jazz standard and has been covered by many artists.
