A Rita is a samba ballad written by Chico Buarque and released on his 1966 debut album Chico Buarque. The song tells of a heartbreak in which Rita leaves her lover in 1966, taking his smile, his plans, and even his guitar, leaving him mute and adrift as he recalls the love they shared. The narrator laments the loss of their relationship and the personal losses that come with it, mentioning tokens she took like a portrait, a São Francisco image, and a Noel record. In 2013 Ana Carolina released the album #AC and answered with Resposta da Rita, a playful reply from the runaway to Chico Buarque’s lament. Chico Buarque participated in the recording, singing verses of his original song, linking the two tunes across generations.
