A Taste of Honey is a pop standard written by Bobby Scott and Ric Marlow for the 1960 Broadway musical A Taste of Honey, which was later made into a 1961 film. It began as an instrumental theme, with the first recording by Bobby Scott in 1960 and a 1961 release. A vocal version followed, popularized by Lenny Welch in 1962, and it was later performed by Barbra Streisand and the Beatles for their 1963 album Please Please Me. The best known version is Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass’ instrumental on the 1965 album Whipped Cream & Other Delights; it won four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year in 1966, and spent five weeks at number one on the easy listening chart. The tune is often described as in Dorian mode and is noted for eight drum beats before a tempo shift in the Alpert arrangement.
