A-Tisket, A-Tasket began as a North American nursery rhyme noted in 1879 and was part of a circle-dance game where a handkerchief is dropped and chased. Ella Fitzgerald and Al Feldman (later known as Van Alexander) turned the rhyme into a 1938 jazz piece that became her breakthrough with the Chick Webb Orchestra. The single was released in June 1938, after being recorded on May 2, 1938, on the Decca label and runs about 2 minutes and 34 seconds, making it a jazz standard. In Fitzgerald's version the color of the basket is brown and yellow, and a little girl picks up the note and takes the basket; a follow-up song titled I Found My Yellow Basket was released the same year. It was a major hit in the pre-chart era, topping sheet music and radio charts, and has since been covered and referenced by many artists and used in films and other media.
