Across the Universe is a Beatles song written by John Lennon and credited to Lennon–McCartney. It was recorded in February 1968 with Indian influences and first released in December 1969 on the charity album No One’s Gonna Change Our World, issued to benefit the World Wildlife Fund. A different version produced by Phil Spector with orchestral and choral overdubs appeared on Let It Be in May 1970 - the Beatles’ final released studio album. The track blends psychedelic folk and dreamlike imagery, featuring the Sanskrit mantra Jai guru deva om and the line Nothing’s gonna change my world. The World Wildlife Fund version included bird sound effects and backing by two Apple scruffs, Lizzie Bravo and Gayleen Pease; later reissues span the 1969 mono mix, the Let It Be version, Anthology 2 Take 2, and the 50th anniversary releases. NASA even transmitted Across the Universe into space in 2008 to celebrate anniversaries of the recording. David Bowie covered the song on Young Americans in 1975, helping to cement its lasting influence.
