Again is a popular song with music by Lionel Newman and lyrics by Dorcas Cochran. It first appeared in the 1948 film Road House, sung by Ida Lupino, and an instrumental version was later used in Pickup on South Street (1953). In 1949 the tune became a hit for several artists, including Doris Day, Vic Damone, Tommy Dorsey, Gordon Jenkins, Vera Lynn, Art Mooney, and Mel Tormé, all of whom charted on the Billboard Best Seller list. Doris Day’s February 1949 recording for Columbia reached number 2 and stayed on the chart for 19 weeks. Mel Tormé’s Capitol version reached the top 10, peaking at number 7 and lasting 18 weeks, and runs about 3 minutes 13 seconds with the B side Blue Moon. Gordon Jenkins and his orchestra also scored a high charting version, peaking at number 2 and spending 23 weeks on the chart. The song is widely regarded as a standard and has been covered by many artists in pop and jazz styles.
