Ain't No Mountain High Enough is a 1967 Motown soul-pop duet by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, written by Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. The single, from the album United, features a lively call-and-response over a driving rhythm and gospel-tinged production by Harvey Fuqua and Johnny Bristol. It was recorded in late 1966 to early 1967 and was the pair’s first collaboration; Terrell was reportedly nervous and recorded her part separately before Gaye added his vocals. The song reached number 19 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and number 3 on the R&B chart, becoming a signature Motown love anthem. In 1970, Diana Ross released a solo remake that topped the charts. The original Gaye-Terrell version was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999 and has appeared in film soundtracks such as Stepmom, Remember the Titans, and Guardians of the Galaxy. The B-side of the single was Give a Little Love.
