Ain't She Sweet is a 1927 Tin Pan Alley jazz pop standard composed by Milton Ager with lyrics by Jack Yellen - it was published on January 17, 1927 and released as a Gene Austin single on May 13, 1927 with the B-side What Do I Care What Somebody Said, recorded at Victor Studios in New York. The tune became a Roaring Twenties favorite and a Tin Pan Alley staple, later covered by many artists including Lou Gold, Ben Bernie, Lillian Roth, Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra. Milton Ager wrote the song for his daughter Shana Ager, who grew up to be journalist Shana Alexander. The Beatles recorded Ain't She Sweet in Hamburg in 1961 backing Tony Sheridan as The Beat Brothers, with John Lennon on lead vocal; the track was issued as a single in 1964 in the UK and the US and reached the top 20 in the US. It has appeared on Beatles compilations such as Anthology 1 and Anthology 3, and is noted as part of the band’s early professional recording history with Pete Best.
