Alfie’s Theme is the main jazz theme written and performed by Sonny Rollins for the 1966 British film Alfie. It appears on the Alfie soundtrack album, released in 1966 on Impulse! and produced by Bob Thiele, with arrangements by Oliver Nelson. The track runs about 10 minutes on the original LP and features Rollins with an all star lineup including Kenny Burrell, Phil Woods, J.J. Johnson, Jimmy Cleveland, and more. The film was made in London with British musicians, but the album uses a New York based cast and was recorded at Van Gelder Studio on January 26, 1966. In the United Kingdom the release was originally titled Sonny Plays Alfie before resurfacing on Impulse! and the album reached No 17 on the Billboard R&B chart.
