All or Nothing at All is a swing jazz standard written in 1939 by Arthur Altman with lyrics by Jack Lawrence. It was first released in July 1939 by Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra with vocal by Bob Eberly. The best known version is Frank Sinatra's 1940 recording with the Harry James Orchestra, recorded August 31, 1939 and released as a Columbia single on August 2, 1940; it was reissued on May 24, 1943 during the musicians’ strike. The 1943 reissue topped the Billboard charts for 21 weeks and sold over a million copies, while it also charted on the Harlem Hit Parade at number eight. The song uses a 32-bar AABA form and is closely associated with Sinatra’s early swing style; it was released as a single rather than as part of an original album.
