All Too Soon is a 1940 jazz standard composed by Duke Ellington with lyrics by Carl Sigman. The original recording by Duke Ellington and His Famous Orchestra was made in 1940, with the first take dated July 22, and the tune is in the key of C major. Since then it has become a beloved staple of the Ellington catalog and the jazz repertoire, with notable covers by Mildred Bailey (1941), Sarah Vaughan (1944–46), Jeri Southern (1957) and Ella Fitzgerald (1958) among others. The song has appeared on Ellington releases and on compilation albums such as Never No Lament: The Blanton-Webster Band, and it has been performed in various settings from studio sessions to live tributes, including the 1969 All-Star White House Tribute.
