Alone Too Long is a mid-20th century American pop standard with music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Dorothy Fields. It was first released in March 1954 by Nat King Cole with an orchestra conducted by Nelson Riddle. The song comes from the Broadway musical By the Beautiful Sea (1954), where the character Dennis Emery sings about being lonely and longing for love. The original Broadway cast recording was issued by Capitol Records in 1954. The tune is a vocal pop jazz ballad and has been covered by many artists over the years, including Wilbur Evans, Eddie Fisher, Sylvia Syms, Frank Ifield, Mark Murphy, and Susannah McCorkle, as well as instrumental versions by Stan Kenton and Nelson Riddle. A sheet music edition for voice and piano was published in 1954 by Edwin H. Morris & Company.
