At Last is a 1941 pop and jazz standard written by Mack Gordon and Harry Warren for the musical Sun Valley Serenade. Glenn Miller and His Orchestra recorded a 1942 version that reached number two on the US Billboard pop chart, released by RCA Victor as a 78 single backed with Kalamazoo. The tune became a musical standard, with an early vocal version cut from Sun Valley Serenade and later heard in Orchestra Wives. The best known later recording is Etta James’s 1960 arrangement on the album At Last!, which became her signature song and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. It has since been covered by artists such as Celine Dion and Beyoncé, and in 2009 James’s version was added to the Library of Congress National Recording Registry, with Rolling Stone ranking it among the 500 greatest songs of all time.
