Babik is a jazz tune tied to Babik Reinhardt, a French guitarist and the younger son of Django Reinhardt. Born in Paris in 1944, Babik built a career in jazz and jazz fusion, primarily on electric guitar. A track associated with Babik Reinhardt was released posthumously on Generation Django (2009), a tribute album to Django Reinhardt featuring artists such as his son David Reinhardt and Biréli Lagrène. Babik’s own discography includes Joue Sidney Bechet (1967), Sinti Houn Brazil (1973), Sur Le Chemin De Mon Pere...Django (1974), and the collaborative Three of a Kind (1985) with Christian Escoudé and Boulou Ferré. He passed away in Cannes in 2001. The tune sits within the jazz and fusion branches of the Gypsy Jazz lineage.
