Bags' Groove is a jazz composition written by Milt Jackson, named after his nickname "Bags". It was first recorded by the Milt Jackson Quintet on April 7, 1952 for Blue Note Records and later released on Wizard of the Vibes. The piece gained fame with Miles Davis's 1954 quintet recording, issued in 1957 on the album Bags' Groove. The Miles version features Miles Davis on trumpet, Milt Jackson on vibraphone, Thelonious Monk on piano, Percy Heath on bass, and Kenny Clarke on drums. It is notable that Monk did not accompany Miles behind his solo at Miles' request, after which Monk delivered one of his most renowned piano solos. The tune is considered a 1950s jazz standard and is associated with hard bop, with notable later recordings by the Modern Jazz Quartet and other artists.
