Baía, also known as Bahia, is a Brazilian flavoured tune from Disney’s The Three Caballeros (1945). The song was composed by Ary Barroso, a renowned Brazilian songwriter, and appears in the Brazil sequence when Jose Carioca invites Donald Duck into a book about Brazil. In the film the tune is sung by the Brazilian parrot Joe Carioca (voiced by José Oliveira) as he describes Baía and a cookie seller who performs a lively chorus about her wares. The Three Caballeros was released in 1945, with a world premiere in 1944 in Mexico City, and it blends live action and animation in a musical exploration of Latin American culture. The track is part of the film’s soundtrack, which features samba-inspired rhythms and other Latin American melodies.
