Basin Street Blues is a 1928 Dixieland jazz standard written by Spencer Williams and first recorded that year by Louis Armstrong. The title refers to Basin Street, the main street of Storyville, New Orleans’ historic red-light district. A later version with lyrics by Glenn Miller and Jack Teagarden appeared in 1931 on a Columbia Records 78 by the Charleston Chasers. The tune has been covered by many artists across decades, including Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Ray Charles, and Harry Connick Jr.
