Bernie’s Tune is a 1952 jazz standard written by pianist Bernie Miller - lyrics were added later by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller - it was popularized by the Gerry Mulligan Quartet on the 1952 album Bernie’s Tune, which also featured Chet Baker on trumpet - the tune is typically played in D minor and uses a 32-bar AABA form with a bluesy feel - it became a jam session favorite and helped launch the Pacific Jazz label and the West Coast jazz movement - although closely tied to Mulligan, Miller was a relatively obscure Washington, D.C. pianist who also wrote Loaded - Mulligan later created a new melody over the same changes and titled it Idle Gossip.
