Billie’s Bounce is a 1945 bebop jazz composition by Charlie Parker, written as a 12-bar F blues. Parker and His Re-Boppers recorded it for Savoy Records in November 1945, with Miles Davis on trumpet, Dizzy Gillespie on piano, Curley Russell on bass and Max Roach on drums. The piece is originally instrumental, though lyrics were later added by Jon Hendricks and Eddie Jefferson. The title’s origin is debated, with some saying it honors Billy Shaw’s agent and others pointing to a secretary named Billie. The track was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2002 and remains a bebop standard, covered by many artists including Dexter Gordon on his 1964 album Billie’s Bounce.
