Blue and Sentimental is a jazz tune co-written by Count Basie, Jerry Livingston, and Mack David. It was written in 1938 and first recorded by the Count Basie Orchestra on June 6, 1938. The piece is a swinging jazz standard that has been performed and recorded by many artists over the years. Notable later recordings include Count Basie with Bob Bailey in 1947 for RCA Victor, the King Cole Trio in 1947, the Mills Brothers in 1952, Michel Legrand on Legrand Jazz in 1958 featuring Ben Webster, Ike Quebec on the 1962 album Blue and Sentimental, Tony Bennett and Kay Starr on Playin' with My Friends: Bennett Sings the Blues in 2001, and Larkin Poe on Late Night Basie in 2023. The tune is generally considered part of the jazz and swing repertoire, with some later arrangements credited to Quincy Jones.
