Blue Daniel is a jazz waltz written in 1959 by trombonist Frank Rosolino. It was first recorded by Shelly Manne & His Men on September 24, 1959 and released in 1960 as an instrumental track. The tune has since become a jazz standard with many covers, including a 1960 live version by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet and an English-language adaptation by Ben Sidran in 1979. It has been arranged for a variety of ensembles, with a notable Bill Holman arrangement performed by the Bill Holman Band Live. The piece is known for a quiet opening, solos for alto sax and trumpet, a bold ensemble shout, and a return to a gentle, tuneful ending.
