Blue Turning Grey Over You is a 1929 jazz standard composed by Fats Waller with lyrics by Andy Razaf. The earliest known recording was by Barney Trimble and His Oklahomans in January 1930, with Louis Armstrong soon following for Okeh Records in 1930 and again in 1955 on the album Satch Plays Fats. The tune has been recorded by a wide range of artists over the decades, including Lee Morse (1930), Billie Holiday (1951), Harry James (mid-1940s live versions), Maxine Sullivan (1956), Frankie Laine (1957), Kenny Ball (1961), and Ringo Starr (1970). It is widely regarded as a jazz standard and has appeared on numerous albums and compilations. Armstrong’s 1955 take on Satch Plays Fats is noted for its slower, more reflective interpretation compared with the 1930 version.
