Boogie Chillen' No. 2 is John Lee Hooker's 1970 update of his landmark blues tune Boogie Chillen, recorded with Canned Heat for the album Hooker 'n Heat (released 1971). The original Boogie Chillen, issued in 1948, was Hooker's debut single and the first down-home electric blues to top the R&B charts, featuring his spoken and sung vocals, a driving one-chord guitar groove, and foot stomps. No. 2 speeds the tempo and expands the groove with longer instrumental passages, creating a jammy boogie rock feel while keeping Hooker's distinctive swagger. This collaboration helped fuse Hooker's early Delta inspired blues with 1970s rock energy and influenced many guitarists. The No. 2 version on Hooker 'n Heat is noted for its extended improvisation and its place in the lineage from blues to rock.
