Boplicity is a cool jazz composition written by Miles Davis and Gil Evans for the 1957 album Birth of the Cool. It was recorded on April 22, 1949 and released in February 1957 on Capitol Records' Birth of the Cool. The piece is in the key of F major and lasts about 3 minutes. Although credited to Cleo Henry, Miles Davis's mother’s maiden name, the music was a collaboration between Davis and Evans. It was arranged by Gil Evans and performed by the Miles Davis Nonet, and it helped establish cool jazz as a major style and has since become a standard in the jazz repertoire.
