Boy, What a Night is an instrumental hard bop tune written by Lee Morgan. It appears on the 1964 Blue Note album The Sidewinder, recorded in 1963 with Lee Morgan on trumpet, Joe Henderson on tenor sax, Barry Harris on piano, Bob Cranshaw on bass, and Billy Higgins on drums. The session was produced by Alfred Lion and engineered by Rudy Van Gelder. The piece is a brisk 12/8 swing in B-flat major, around 218 bpm, and features solos from Henderson, Morgan, and Harris. This track, like The Sidewinder as a whole, helped define a groove oriented approach to hard bop and remains a landmark in 1960s jazz.
