Broadway is a 1940 jazz standard written by Bill Bird, Teddy McRae and Henri Woode. It was popularized by Count Basie and His Orchestra, with the first recording on November 19, 1940 and release in 1941. The tune belongs to the swing and big band era and has become a staple of the jazz repertoire, recorded by many artists such as Gerry Mulligan, Dexter Gordon, Art Pepper, Hampton Hawes and Ahmad Jamal. Vocal versions include Dakota Staton, Mel Tormé and Diana Krall. The Real Book now includes Broadway, reflecting its status as a widely performed standard. A notable instrumental interpretation is Kenny Burrell's guitar trio take on A Night at the Vanguard from 1959.
