Bud Powell is a celebrated jazz piano tune written by Bud Powell. Chick Corea and Friends honor Powell on the 1997 studio album Remembering Bud Powell, performing Powell’s tunes in a modern post-bop approach. The recording took place in 1996 at Mad Hatter Recording Studios in Los Angeles and the album was issued on the Stretch label. The lineup features Chick Corea on piano with Wallace Roney, Kenny Garrett, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride and Roy Haynes, and includes Corea’s own track Bud Powell alongside Powell compositions such as Bouncing with Bud, Mediocre, Willow Grove, Dusk in Sandi, Oblivion, I’ll Keep Loving You, Tempus Fugit and Celia. The project received positive notices and was nominated for Best Jazz Instrumental Performance, Individual or Group at the Grammy Awards.
