Cavalerie is a 1937 jazz composition by Django Reinhardt. Reinhardt attempted to record it with the Quintet of the Hot Club of France, but the take was aborted and the original version is now lost. It was later re-recorded and released as a single in 1943, paired with Douce Ambiance, with the Paris session on February 17, 1943. The tune sits in the swing and gypsy jazz tradition and is tied to Reinhardt’s distinctive guitar style. Joe Pass later recorded Cavalerie for his 1964 album For Django; Pass’s version is a bebop-inspired swinging altered blues in the key of D-flat major, beginning with a thumping bass and featuring D9 and Db9 alterations, with much of the track built on blues over Db7 and Gb7.
