Change the World is a song written by Tommy Sims, Gordon Kennedy and Wayne Kirkpatrick. It was first recorded by Wynonna Judd for her 1996 album Revelations, in a neo-traditional country style. A more widely known version was recorded by Eric Clapton for the Phenomenon soundtrack and released as a single on July 8, 1996; Clapton’s take is an acoustic rock ballad produced by Babyface. The Clapton version, in the key of E major and about 3 minutes and 54 seconds long, became an international hit, reaching the top five on the US Billboard Hot 100 and topping Canada, while also charting strongly on US Adult Contemporary and Adult Top 40. It won eight awards, including three Grammys in 1997 for Song of the Year, Record of the Year and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The song has appeared on numerous releases and its music video was shot at Hoboken Terminal, with Clapton playing a Martin guitar.
