Cheese Cake is a jazz tune written by American tenor saxophonist Dexter Gordon. It appears as the title track on the live album Cheese Cake (Dexter In Radioland Vol. 2), recorded on June 11, 1964 at Jazzhus Montmartre in Copenhagen and released in 1979 on the SteepleChase label. The album features Gordon with a European rhythm section — pianist Tete Montoliu, bassist Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and drummer Alex Riel. The title track runs about 14 minutes and showcases Gordon’s expansive improvisation within a swinging hard bop setting. The release also includes Manhã de Carnaval and Second Balcony Jump, making Cheese Cake a notable document of Gordon’s European work and a standout live record from Montmartre.
