Chez Jacquet, also known as Gin Gin, is a Gypsy Jazz waltz composed by Django Reinhardt in his youth. The tune was not recorded by Django himself during his lifetime; it surfaced later when Jean βMateloβ Ferret recorded it in 1960 for Disques Vogue EPL7740, and it has since appeared on Ferretβs releases such as TziganskaΓ―a and Other Rare Recordings. The piece is written in the key of D major and typifies the Gypsy Waltz style with a flowing melody and a precise, driving rhythm. A later version was recorded by Baro Ferret in 1966, helping keep the tune in the Gypsy Jazz repertoire. Django Reinhardt, the Belgian-born Romani guitarist who co-led the Quintette du Hot Club de France, remains a major influence on European jazz guitar and on the Gypsy Jazz tradition that Chez Jacquet helped to shape.
