Cold Duck Time is a rock-influenced jazz standard written by Eddie Harris. It first appeared on the 1969 live soul-jazz album Swiss Movement by Les McCann and Eddie Harris, recorded at the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The performance features Eddie Harris on tenor sax and Les McCann on piano, with a driving groove based on straight eighths and a strong backbeat - an approach that helped the tune appeal even to casual listeners. The original recording was reportedly not fully rehearsed, as the band learned the tune on stage, yet Swiss Movement - including the hit single "Compared to What" - became a major success. The track runs about 6:31 on the original release.
