C.T.A. is a jazz instrumental composed by Jimmy Heath. It is a contrafact of I Got Rhythm, sharing the same chord changes but with a new melody. It was first recorded by Miles Davis on April 20, 1953 and released later that year; the track appeared on the Miles Davis, Volume 1 album, with the album itself released in 1955. The initials C.T.A. reportedly stand for Heath’s girlfriend Connie Theresa Ann. The tune is in Bb and known for a brisk rhythm-changes feel, making it a standard that has been covered by many artists, including Chet Baker with Art Pepper and Lee Morgan; Heath later revitalized it on his Grammy-nominated Little Man Big Band some four decades later.
