Dança da Solidão is a samba tune by Brazilian artist Paulinho da Viola. It is the title track of his 1972 studio album A Dança da Solidão, a classic in the samba do morro tradition that blends traditional samba with jazz influences. The album, originally released on Odeon, features several Paulinho da Viola compositions alongside works by other samba greats; the track Dança da Solidão runs about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. Lyrically it speaks of loneliness and disillusionment, with a mood of resignation as the narrator dances through solitude and dreams of a source of pure water that ends bitterness. The album was later reissued on CD in 1996, remastered at Abbey Road, and the tune gained renewed attention when it was recorded by Marisa Monte with Paulinho da Viola.
