Daphne is a Django Reinhardt original. He recorded a fabulous version with Stéphane Grappelli during their Rome sessions in 1949. The tune is a classic of gypsy jazz and is closely associated with the Reinhardt-Grappelli collaborations from that era. The Rome sessions produced recordings that appeared on various releases rather than a single album. In this video, Joscho Stephan and Olli Soikkeli perform a modern trio version with Volker Kamp on bass, bringing out the tune’s swinging melody and gypsy guitar flair.
