Dat Dere is a jazz tune written by Bobby Timmons and first recorded in 1960. It was released on Timmons’ debut album This Here Is Bobby Timmons in January 1960, and was soon covered by the Cannonball Adderley Quintet on Them Dirty Blues and by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers on The Big Beat, with Timmons on piano. Lyrics were added later by Oscar Brown Jr. for his 1960 album Sin & Soul. The song has since become a jazz standard and has been recorded by many artists, including Sheila Jordan in 1962 for Portrait of Sheila and Rickie Lee Jones in 1991 for Pop Pop.
