Dear Old Stockholm is the English name for the Swedish folk tune Ack Värmeland, du sköna, also known as Värmlandsvisan. It is a traditional melody with Swedish lyrics by Anders Fryxell (1822) for Vermlands-Flickan and later expanded by Fredrik August Dahlgren (1846) for Värmlänningarna, praising the province of Värmland and the longing to return home. The song became a jazz standard in English, with Stan Getz recording it in 1951 and Miles Davis in 1952 for Blue Note and again in 1956 for the album Round About Midnight, the latter featuring John Coltrane. Other notable renditions include Jutta Hipp, Paul Chambers, and Coltrane in the late 1950s to early 1960s. The tune has been widely performed in both folk and jazz contexts and appears on various albums and in film, such as Eldfågeln (1952) sung by Nicolai Gedda.
