Dom de Iludir is a Brazilian samba-canção / MPB song written by Caetano Veloso. It tells a story about honesty and illusion in love, with the line the truth is your gift to deceive, highlighting how truth can be used to seduce. The first recording was by Maria Creuza in 1977 for the album Meia Noite (RCA Victor). A Spanish version titled Tu Mentira Me Hace Feliz appears on Maria Creuza’s Spanish-language release Medianoche the same year. The tune has since been covered by several artists, including Gal Costa on Minha Voz (1982) and again on Prendiendo fuego (1984), and Caetano Veloso performed live versions on Totalmente Demais (1986). It remains a noted Caetano Veloso composition and a staple of the Brazilian MPB and samba-canção repertoire.
