Don't Speak is a 1996 single by American rock band No Doubt from their 1995 album Tragic Kingdom. The song was originally written as a love song by Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric Stefani, but Gwen reworked the lyrics into a breakup ballad after her seven-year relationship with bandmate Tony Kanal ended. It is an alternative rock power ballad, about 4 minutes and 24 seconds long, and sheet music shows it in the key of E-flat major. Produced by Matthew Wilder, it became No Doubt’s biggest international hit, reaching the top of charts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, the Netherlands and several other countries, while in the United States it topped the Hot 100 Airplay chart for 16 weeks but did not appear on the Hot 100 due to the lack of a US single release. The music video directed by Sophie Muller won Best Group Video at the 1997 MTV Video Music Awards, and the track earned Grammy nominations for Song of the Year and Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
