Dream, sometimes called Dream (When You're Feeling Blue), is a jazz and pop standard written by Johnny Mercer in 1944 and published in 1945. Mercer originally wrote it as a theme for his radio program. The most popular early recordings were by The Pied Pipers with June Hutton and by Frank Sinatra, both released in 1945 and becoming major hits. Over the years the song has been covered by many artists including Betty Johnson, The Four Aces, Roy Orbison (on his 1963 album In Dreams and later in the 1998 You've Got Mail soundtrack), Ella Fitzgerald with a Nelson Riddle arrangement, Dean Martin, Etta James, Ringo Starr, and Diana Krall. The Skylines with Ray Anthony’s orchestra revived the ballad for the 1955 film Daddy Long Legs. It remains a lush jazz and pop ballad that is a staple of the Great American Songbook.
