Eye of the Hurricane is a jazz standard composed by Herbie Hancock. It was first recorded and released in 1965 on the album Maiden Voyage. The tune is part of the Maiden Voyage suite, noted for its moody, atmospheric feel that evokes the calm at the center of a storm. A remastered edition titled Eye of the Hurricane (Remastered 1999 / Rudy Van Gelder Edition) has circulated on later releases. The piece has also been performed in live settings, including a 1983 Switzerland concert with Hancock joined by Ron Carter and Billy Cobham.
