Fantaisie is a jazz composition written by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli, performed by the Quintette du Hot Club de France. It was recorded in Paris on March 10, 1948 - during the late 1940s string-quintet sessions - with Grappelli on violin and piano, Django Reinhardt on lead guitar, Joseph Reinhardt on guitar, Challin Ferret on guitar, and Emmanuel Soudieux on bass, lasting about 2 minutes and 52 seconds. The piece is part of the Special Quintette à cordes du Hot Club de France (1946-1949) material and has appeared on several compilations, notably Django Et Stephane 1947-1949 (Swaggie Records, 1976). Genre wise it sits in jazz and gypsy jazz - also known as manouche. Some catalogs show a 2016 release including Fantaisie on AllMusic, but the original recording dates to 1948.
