Forest Flower is a landmark live jazz piece by Charles Lloyd, recorded with his quartet at the Monterey Jazz Festival in 1966 and released on Forest Flower: Charles Lloyd at Monterey in 1967. The set opens with two Lloyd compositions, Forest Flower-Sunrise and Forest Flower-Sunset, followed by Sorcery, Song of Her, and East of the Sun. The quartet features Lloyd on tenor saxophone and flute, Keith Jarrett on piano, Cecil McBee on bass, and Jack DeJohnette on drums. The music blends post-bop with modal and avant-garde improvisation, driven by electric interplay between Lloyd and Jarrett. Forest Flower became a crossover hit and one of the first jazz albums to sell over a million copies, helped by FM radio exposure. The album was produced by George Avakian and released on Atlantic Records, with a running time of about 39 minutes.
