Fran-Dance is a Miles Davis composition performed by the Miles Davis Quintet. It was first released in 1959 on the album Jazz Track, after being recorded on May 26, 1958 at Columbia’s 30th Street Studio in New York. The original lineup features Miles Davis on trumpet, Cannonball Adderley on alto sax, John Coltrane on tenor sax, Bill Evans on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Jimmy Cobb on drums. The piece also appears on the 1991 release 58 Sessions, which compiles material from the same 1958 sessions. Fran-Dance is a jazz track often described in the post-bop style. There are famous live versions, including a Newport Jazz Festival performance from 1958 and a Black Hawk set in San Francisco in 1961, and it has appeared on Stockholm 1960 live releases with Coltrane.
