Funk in Deep Freeze is an original Hank Mobley composition by the Hank Mobley Quintet, featured on the 1957 Blue Note album Hank Mobley Quintet (BLP 1550). It was recorded on March 8, 1957 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, NJ and released in early August 1957, with Mobley on tenor sax, Art Farmer on trumpet, Horace Silver on piano, Doug Watkins on bass, and Art Blakey on drums. The track runs 6:50 on the original LP and delivers a hard bop, minor swing—often described as a really hard swinging tune in F minor around 130 bpm. A 2008 remastered CD adds alternate takes as bonus tracks.
