Girl Talk is a jazz tune composed by Neal Hefti with lyrics by Bobby Troup. It was written for the 1965 film Harlow, a biographical story about Jean Harlow, and the instrumental theme appears in the movie with vocal lyrics later added by Troup. The original release was in 1965 as part of the Harlow soundtrack, and the piece has since become a popular 1960s jazz standard with many covers. Notable early vocal versions include Julie London in 1965 and Tony Bennett in 1966, with later renditions by Ella Fitzgerald and Joe Pass, Holly Cole, Betty Carter, and others. The tune has also inspired cross language versions such as Claude Nougaro’s Dansez sur moi in 1973, and it has been described by Michael Feinstein as the last great male chauvinistic song of the era.
