Give Me the Simple Life is a 1945 song with music by Rube Bloom and lyrics by Harry Ruby. It was introduced in the 1946 Twentieth Century-Fox film Wake Up and Dream. The first recording was Bing Crosby with Jimmy Dorsey and His Orchestra, recorded August 29, 1945 and released as a Decca single later that year; it charted briefly in 1946. The tune became a popular traditional pop and vocal jazz standard and was also recorded by Benny Goodman and his Orchestra with Liza Morrow. It has appeared in several films, including The Dark Corner where it played on the radio, and Wake Up and Dream sung by John Payne and June Haver. Steve Tyrell performed it in Father of the Bride Part II. The song has been covered by many artists and remains a staple of mid-20th century American pop music.
