Groovin' High is a bebop tune written by Dizzy Gillespie - it dates from the mid-1940s and was first captured in studio sessions between 1945 and 1947. The piece later lent its name to a 1955 Savoy compilation album also titled Groovin' High, which collects Gillespieâs studio work from those years. The album showcases Gillespie leading rotating ensembles and features a whoâs who of the bebop era, including Charlie Parker, Dexter Gordon and Sonny Stitt among others. The track itself runs about 2 minutes and 40 seconds and has become a staple of the bebop repertoire, emblematic of Gillespieâs inventive trumpet style and the forward push of early modern jazz.
