Hallelujah I Love Her So is a soul and rhythm and blues tune written and performed by Ray Charles. It was released as a single by Atlantic in May 1956 after being recorded on November 30, 1955, and it later appeared on Charles’s self-titled debut album Ray Charles (1957). The song blends gospel-inflected vocals with a punchy horn arrangement and a memorable tenor sax solo by Don Wilkerson, celebrating the joyous release of love. It peaked at number five on the Billboard R&B chart and was produced by Jerry Wexler; the track is loosely based on Ike Turner’s Get It Over Baby (1953). Since its release, it has been covered by artists including Stevie Wonder, Peggy Lee, Eddie Cochran, and Humble Pie, and the Beatles (then the Quarrymen) performed it in the early 1960s; a version by the Quarrymen appears on Anthology 1, released in 1995.
