Hi-Fly is a 1958 jazz tune composed by American pianist Randy Weston. Inspired by his height—6 feet 8 inches—and how the ground looks different from above, it was first recorded on the album New Faces at Newport (1958). The piece has become a jazz standard and appears on many Weston records, including Live at the Five Spot (1959) and Tanjah (1973). Lyricist Jon Hendricks added words later, with the first vocal version by Lambert, Hendricks & Ross in 1959. Since then, Hi-Fly has been covered by numerous artists, from Abbey Lincoln and Mel Tormé to Karin Krog and Sarah Vaughan, spanning bebop and hard bop styles.
